According to Houston police, Maleah has undergone multiple brain surgeries and has required a lot of medical care.

Authorities in Houston are searching for Maleah Davis, 5, who may have been abducted.

Vence told police that he eventually regained full consciousness around 6 p.m. on Saturday, waking up on the side of a road in the Houston suburb of Sugar Land with his toddler unharmed near his side.

Detective Mark Holbrook explained what he believed happened next at a press conference on May 4.

According to police, the alleged abductors kept Maleah, and their whereabouts are unknown.

The girl's mother waited for Vence at the airport, according to police, but when they failed to show up they did not report him missing until the following morning.

That's when a blue pickup truck pulled up behind the auto and two Hispanic males got out, according to Vence's narrative to police.

Police say her stepfather, Darion Vence, was hit in the back of the head and was in and out of consciousness for nearly 24 hours.

The surgeries were to help an injury heal, Holbrook said, adding that "she's needed a lot of car".

When Vence initially woke up, he says that he and the two children were in the back of the pickup, which now carried three Hispanic men. Vence said he heard a "popping noise", like a popped tire and pulled over.

"We're hoping the public can give us any information about anybody who has seen Darion during that period of time because he doesn't really know where he was or what's going on there", Holbrook said.

Davis was reported to be with three unknown men in a 2010 blue Chevrolet crew cab pickup truck.

He said Vence told police that he walked with his son to Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, arriving about 10 or 11 p.m. Two Hispanic males got out and one makes a comment that "Maleah looks very nice, looks very sweet", Holbrook said. Vence then lost consciousness.

They also shared a photo of the auto Vence was driving when the alleged abduction occurred, a silver 2011 Nissan Altima with Texas paper tags 330-92G9.

Authorities have not found any surveillance footage or witness accounts that corroborate Vence's version of events.

Maleah was last seen near the Southwest Freeway and Highway 6 in Sugar Land, Houston. "She has a lovely energy and we just want to find her at this point". "She was last seen Saturday night around 8PM wearing a light blue Under Armor jacket, blue jeans, and gray Under Armor tennis shoes with pink and white details". She is approximately 3-feet tall and weighs 30-40 pounds.

Maleah is an African-American female with black hair and brown eyes.
