Former child star Feldman was prompted to speak out in defence of the late King of Pop after watching the much talked about HBO documentary in which director Dan Reed details Jackson's alleged sexual molestation of James Safechuck and Wade Robson.
The Estate had hoped that while Wade Robson and Jimmy Safechuck were discussing claims that they were targeted and sexually abused by Michael Jackson during their childhood, most fans would be "immersing themselves in the magic" of Jackson's concert films.
"They know what everyone else is talking about tonight and they hope this move will deflect the trajectory of the asteroid that is plummeting towards them", he wrote.
Many agreed with the claim that the family shared the concerts as a means of distraction.
James met Jackson in 1987 on the set of a Pepsi commercial, and had known him for a year at the time of the alleged wedding ceremony. Its four-hour length would make it grueling enough, and its depiction of the sexual abuse of children hardly sounds like feel-good TV.
"You and I were brought together by God". (The case was later settled out of court for $23 million.) Over a decade later in the mid-'00s, Robson, who by then was a successful choreographer for artists like *NSYNC and Britney Spears, again testified in Jackson's defense, along with fellow celebrity-Jackson-friend Macaulay Culkin, against charges that Jackson molested 13-year-old Gavin Arvizo. Safechuck went on to allege that Jackson used jewelry to control him, saying that he had to "earn the gift" by performing sexual acts with the musician.
"Michael was subjected to a thorough investigation which included a surprise raid of Neverland and other properties as well as a jury trial where Michael was found to be COMPLETELY INNOCENT", the family said in a statement. Ahead of the premiere, Jackson's estate sued HBO with a claim that they'd breached a non-disparagement clause in an old contract.
The chronological, straight-forward style of Leaving Neverland feels like a self-conscious attempt to carefully strip the story of its lurid, tabloid qualities. "I don't know where it came from but that became my name from him". What he was all about. "Making kids happy. That's the kind of person he was". He started calling me apple head.
