The dark mode looks spectacular on the Facebook Messenger app with fonts in white and DPs with colourful photos make it worth the long wait.
In order to unlock dark mode, it was discovered sending the crescent moon emoji would unlock the dark mode setting and allow users to enable it.
"It also worked on our Android smartphones in India and over at headquarters, both on Android and iOS, so it's safe to say it's widespread and will be coming officially sooner rather than later", it added.
To activate the app, you'll just need to send someone a crescent moon emoji through chat and click on the ensuing pop-up menu, according to Android Police. Facebook is playing a little game with this release, as dark mode isn't initially available as a toggle in settings.
IMPORTANT: it can not be the moon emoji with the face - it must be the left-facing, crescent moon emoji.
The popup will instruct you to head to settings to enable it. However, now the feature is available to anyone who has the latest version of the app installed on their devices.
To do this, tap on the message you'd like to retract and and select 'Remove for Everyone'. The app does notify that the dark mode is still in work and is inconsistent around the app. The social media platform has been teasing the dark mode launch for months following plans to completely overhaul the app. You have now successfully enabled Dark mode on messenger.
