The lopsided score was a surprise to most college basketball observers, who didn't know exactly what to expect from Barrett and fellow freshman Zion Williamson, who added 28 points.
No team has ever scored more points against John Calipari-coached Kentucky team.
But in a game that was basically one giant Duke run - literally, as the Blue Devils created one fast break after another, resulting from their 10 steals and the Wildcats' 15 turnovers (Duke had only four), opening with a 27-10 advantage and outscoring Kentucky by the same 59-42 margin in both halves - it wasn't just the freshmen who were almost flawless.
Kentucky just had no answers for R.J. Barrett and Duke Tuesday night. A sharp shooter like Alex O'Connell could still thrive in such a system, but Virginia could make it much more hard for Duke's freshman phenoms to dominate around the basket the way they did against Kentucky.
To hear Green tell it: "We're just worrying about practices, worrying about tomorrow, and when that (Duke) time comes, we're gonna worry about that, too".
"They were the better team", Calipari said of Duke.
This year's Duke team could prove to be one of Krzyzewski's best.
Self and his staff have not been accused of any wrongdoing, nor has the school, which has maintained throughout the FBI investigation into college basketball corruption that it was merely a victim.
"This game was supposed to (feature) the top two recruiting classes". The same Kentucky squad that looked golden on its exhibition trip to the Bahamas over the summer after adding all-Pac-12 first-teamer Reid Travis.
Krzyzewski has assembled a program that's equipped to excel in a climate that now favors small ball. Is this the Alabama football effect at Duke this season for basketball?
From the power forward position, Williamson won't be contained. Freshman forward Ignas Brazdeikis had 12 points on 3-of-10 shooting in his debut with the Wolverines.
"A lot of these guys, we've been playing together for nearly three years now", Winston said.
"It didn't bother him", he said. Coach Calipari tried every defense in his book and it just wasn't going to happen. It didn't matter. He didn't have a player on his roster who could handle the Canadian star.
Reddish took advantage of the space created by his teammates' success while also acting as a disruptive defensive force with four steals. You should be enjoying it more than worrying about mistakes and things like that. Jones had zero turnovers in his 31 minutes.
This was not a game full of ball screens and sophisticated schemes.
The Blue Devils didn't stop with that flurry.
What is this Duke team missing?
The hype promised as much.
It's the beginning of the season. Duke only committed four turnovers, which Calipari said Tuesday night was because United Kingdom didn't defend well.
Looking back to past year, there are two players that will not be back who they will really miss. Senior guard Josh Perkins is a threat and he's consistent, enough to play Duke better than probably just about anybody, especially alongside Rui Hachimura, Zach Norvell, transfer Brandon Clarke and some talented underclassmen who will be sprinkled in the mix to fill out the Bulldogs rotation (if the Zags face Duke in a couple weeks at the Maui Invitational, however, they'll be without Killian Tillie).
