A NOAA Hurricane Hunter plane that investigated the oncoming Tropical Storm Isaac Wednesday evening and found that the system has weakened a bit, according to the National Weather Service.

We started tracking Helene as it pushed off of the coastline of Africa and intensified.

The centre of Isaac passed between Martinique and Dominica with maximum sustained winds of about 45 miles per hour.

WIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected on Martinique, Dominica, and Guadeloupe by tonight or early Thursday.

On this track, the centre of this system is forecast to pass between 100 and 150 miles (160 to 240 km) north of Barbados early tomorrow. A 77-year-old man was apparently knocked down by the wind and died after going out to check on his hunting dogs, Lenoir County authorities said.

In its latest advisory, the US Hurricane Center placed Helene about 760 miles off the Azores and calculated the maximum sustained wind speed at 65mph.

"This will likely be the storm of a lifetime for portions of the Carolina coast", the National Weather Service spokesperson in Wilmington, North Carolina said Tuesday night, according to ABC News.

For this reason, all warnings and storm surveillance for the Lesser Antilles have been raised. Heavy rain and winds from Olivia downed trees, knocked out power and prompted evacuations of several homes on Hawaii's Maui island but spared the state widespread damage Wednesday.

Puerto Rico is still trying to recover from Hurricane Maria almost a year after the Category 4 storm hit. SCMP reported the government is taking no chances and has "strengthened the embankment protecting the tourist fishing village of Tai O on western Lantau Island from storm surge and there are plans to evacuate 300-400 residents by coach". But Florence's forward movement had slowed to a crawl, and it piled on the rain in a siege that could go on all weekend long.

North Carolina alone is forecast to get 9.6 trillion gallons (36 trillion liters), enough to cover the Tar Heel state to a depth of about 10 inches (25 centimeters).

"WE ARE COMING TO GET YOU", the city tweeted during the height of the storm.
