Shares of electric auto maker Tesla Inc. fell more than 6 per cent early Friday after the CEO appeared to smoke marijuana during an interview and the company's accounting chief left after a month on the job.

"Is that a joint?"

This time, the Tesla billionaire puffed on a marijuana joint during the recording of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. All while sipping on some Whiskey, towards the end though, Joe Rogan chose to "light one up". Rogan asked. "Almost never", said Musk, chairman and chief executive officer of Tesla and chairman of the board at SpaceX.

The Tesla entrepreneur spoke about artificial intelligence, colonising space and the need to "give love a chance".

Musk sat down with the comedian turned bro minister and part-time survivalist to discuss eccentric ideas while drinking whiskey. "Yeah, I think I tried one once", he said, when it was confirmed that it was indeed a cigarette containing marijuana and Rogan asked if he had ever used before.

Musk stunned investors last month with tweets saying he had funding to take the company private for $420 (£323) a share.

"The vast majority of negative comments, I just ignore them", he said.

Morton left Seagate Technology(STX) - where, according to company filings, he made some $5 million in 2017 salary and other compensation - to join Tesla.

"You probably can't do this because of stockholders, right?"

The interview was taped in California, where marijuana is legal. "I know a lot of people like weed and that's fine, but I don't think it's very good for productivity".

Musk described the "negativity" on Twitter, and later added: "Be nicer to each other".

While it is, again, another chapter in the "wacky adventures" of Elon Musk, I suspect that this is going to be another faux pas in the coming days.

"The interesting thing about an electric plane is that you want to go as high as possible, but you need a certain energy density in the battery pack, because you have to overcome gravitational potential energy", Musk said.

Some Wall Street analysts called again for the company to appoint another senior leader for the company to take the pressure off Musk, or rein in his control.
