KXIP vs KKR Live Score

Petrol is being sold today at Rs 80.87 per litre, and diesel at Rs 72.97 per litre. So, the prices would have fallen by one rupee only if the prices had remained at May 30 levels, which was Rs 82.62 a litre for petrol and Rs 75.19 a litre for diesel. In Mumbai, the price of petrol rose to Rs 88.26 per litre today - an increase of 14 paise. An anonymous government official, quoted by PTI in a news report published Monday, said a cut in excise duty that the central government levies will impact fiscal deficit and states like Bihar, Kerala, and Punjab are not in a position to cut sales tax or Value Added Tax (VAT).

AAP leaders staged a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar against the fuel price hike. Train services were hit in Odisha during the "Bharat bandh" call.

"Congress party has never held Bharat Bandh before, we don't even believe in Bharat Bandh, but since the time Modi govt has come there has been a situation that led to this", said Congress leader Ashok Gehlot.

While the Congress and other opposition parties claimed the bandh was a success, the BJP claimed it was a flop.

The Congress party along with other Opposition parties called a nationwide strike across the country on Monday to protest against the rising prices of petrol and diesel and the falling value of the rupee against the United States dollar. The central government had raised excise duty on petrol by Rs 11.77 a litre and that on diesel by 13.47 a litre in nine installments between November 2014 and January 2016 to shore up finances as global oil prices fell, but then it cut the tax just once in October past year by Rs 2 a litre. Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also attributed the hike in fuel prices mainly to rupee depreciation.

Calling the hike in prices of petroleum products a "momentary difficulty" due to the global crisis, the BJP on Monday condemned incidents of violence during the Bharat Bandh.

Addressing the Legislative Assembly, the AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu accused the BJP government at the centre for not considering to reduce fuel prices despite earning large sums through various taxes.

However, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that the state government was working on various proposals to give relief to the people from rising fuel prices.
