Darren Criss also won for The Assassination of Gianni Versace as he collected the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.

The biggest shock of the night came when presumed front-runner Donald Glover, the star and creator of the surreal hip-hop-inspired FX show Atlanta, lost out in the comedy acting category to Bill Hader's hitman-turned-struggling actor in HBO's showbusiness satire Barry.
Rachel Brosnahan from Highland Park and Alex Borstein from Deerfield were honored for the acclaimed Amazon series, which also won the prize for best comedy series.
Brosnahan used her acceptance speech to give a shout-out to her comedy's celebration of women power. "It's because I want to call you my wife", Weiss said.
