The Office of Cabinet Affairs, a division of the executive office of the president that oversees all cabinet agencies, has held multiple meetings with Pruitt's EPA leadership including meetings with Pruitt and his chief of staff, Ryan Jackson. They were his first comments since it was reported that he used a top aide to inquire about a "business opportunity" with the fast-food company.
Ethics rules prohibit officials from using their office for private gain. Meanwhile, Trump praised Pruitt on Wednesday during a briefing on hurricane preparedness at the Federal Emergency Management Agency's headquarters.
"Somebody has to say that about you a little bit, you know that, Scott", the president added.
Trump continued, "You know that, Scott". But you have done - I tell you, the EPA is doing so well. Perhaps world history. In the middle of April, almost two months ago, CNN put the list of Scott Pruitt scandals at 15. "The subject of that phone call was an expression of interest in his wife becoming a Chick-fil-A franchisee", company representative Carrie Kurlander told The Washington Post via email.
"I mean, look, my wife is an entrepreneur herself".
Also, Pruitt's defense - that "we need more of 'em in Tulsa, and we need more of 'em across the country", as if trying to open a Chick-fil-A were some kind of public service - is particularly weak.
Founded in Atlanta, the Chick-fil-A chain is known for incorporating Christianity into its business code, including shutting down nationwide on Sundays.
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the committee's ranking Democrat, called the errands a violation of federal law on gifts from subordinates. He's in the trough with all four paws and snout.
Greenwalt is an attorney who worked for Pruitt when he was attorney general. Joni Ernst, a staunchly conservative Republican from Iowa, suggested Pruitt should resign.
Other recently disclosed examples of Pruitt seeking special treatment include his repeated use of first-class air travel, luxury hotel suits and directing his security staff to use lights and sirens to speed through Washington traffic to dinner reservations. You have done, the EPA is doing so well, so many approvals and disapprovals... Earlier this week, EPA's director of scheduling and advance, Millan Hupp, gave notice of her departure; her last day is Friday. A senior aide wrapped up in the ethics investigations of Pruitt has abruptly resigned.
