A former Oregon University football player was found dead early Friday morning close to an area where his friend crashed his auto hours earlier. According to the report, Leiato's body was found by a passerby about five hours after the crash scene had been cleared.
After sunrise, a woman walking near the area noticed a hand poking out of the brush.
The driver of the vehicle, Pedro Chavarin Jr., 22, told police he was the lone person in the crash. Boulevard and Kinsrow Avenue, in which the vehicle, a 2014 Kia sedan crashed and rolled off the road into some heavy brush. Chavarin told officers that he was alone in the vehicle and wasn't carrying any passengers.
'Heart and prayers are with the Leiato family right now as well as the Oregon Football Family after hearing of the loss of Fotu Leiato. In January, Leiato was charged for misdemeanor trespassing. He was arrested for the act which was his final strike with Oregon Football and he was dismissed from the team.
He was expected to compete for a starting position at outside linebacker before his release.
Entering the 2018 season, Leiato appeared in 27 games for the Ducks, including on special teams. Last season, he had 14 total tackles, including one for a loss, as well as one pass defended.
