Six suspects in the murder of an innocent teenager in the Bronx will be extradited from New Jersey, joining a two others who were arrested in the Bronx in the brutal killing of 15-year-old Lesandro Guzman-Feliz.
The teen's slaying was captured on surveillance video and sparked widespread community outrage.
One of the alleged killers who dragged a teenage boy from a Bronx bodega and hacked him to death on the street was nabbed because of his baggy trousers.
Late on Wednesday, June 20, Junior was stabbed in the neck with a machete at a bodega in the Bronx.
In the Bronx River Parkway attack, NYPD officials and federal prosecutors chose to bring federal racketeering charges against one suspect, identified as Ramon Paulino of the Bronx. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark on Tuesday said police have an eighth man in custody in connection with the case.
The suspects arrested in NJ are Jose Muniz, 21, of Paterson, NJ; Joniki Martinez, 24, of Freeport, NY; and Jose Taverez, 21; Manuel Rivera, 18; Danel Fernandez, 21; and Santiago Rodriguez, 24, all of the Bronx, NY. The men reportedly are affiliated with the Trinitarios, a Dominican gang.
Police say the Guzman-Feliz's death was the result of a "mistaken identity over a sex tape" when the teen got involved in the deadly dispute with the gang.
The victim's older sister Genesis Collado-Feliz, 17, told The Post that her brother was "a good student" and "a good kid" who enjoyed playing Nintendo.
The gang that killed Guzman-Feliz say it was a case of mistaken identity.
"What hurts me the most is the notion that this was a young man who wanted to serve our city, be a part of our police force and had such a bright future now is taken from us", de Blasio said.
His mother says the gang had been after her son since previous year, when he broke up with a girl linked to the gang.
"They said, 'We had the wrong person, '" Derek Grullon, 19, the teen's brother-in-law, told the New York Daily News. He spoke to Guzman-Feliz' mother on Sunday night and wants to work with her to figure out the best way to honor him.
Lesandro Guzman-Feliz, 15, was a member of the NYPD's Police Explorers program.
A GoFundMe page started in his honor has raised more than $200,000 in five days.
Cardi posted a picture of Junior lying in a hospital bed, and later shared a clip of his 48-year-old mother Leandra Feliz thanking the rapper and others for their heartfelt donations.
Singer Rihanna, who has more than 63 million followers on Instagram, posted a photo of Guzman-Feliz with the message "can't stop thinking about this poor baby boy, and how his family must feel right now!"
